Rolling admissions colleges have a system of recruitment which allows students to apply for college for a longer period of time. Many colleges and universities with rolling admissions start their recruitment period in fall and run it through to summer, and it’s available to students for undergraduate courses. While some of the most selective schools may not offer this option, there are many good ones who do. Below is a list of some of the best schools with rolling admissions in the US:
- Pennsylvania State University – University Park: a public university, established in 1855, is currently ranked as 48th nationwide. A large university with over 40,000 undergraduates, the student-faculty ratio is 17:1.
- Purdue University – West Lafayette, Indiana: ranked 62nd in the US. Established in 1869, the university has over 29,000 undergraduates and has 12 schools and colleges serving graduates and undergraduates. The student-faculty ratio is 13:1.
- University of Pittsburgh: established in 1787, has over 18,000 undergraduate students. It jointly ranks as 62nd nationwide and has a student-faculty ratio of 14:1.
- Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey – New Brunswick: currently ranked 70th in the United States, was established in 1766. This historic university has almost 40,000 undergraduates and offers students a student-faculty ratio of 13:1.
- University of Minnesota – Twin Cities: established in 1851, is a public research university with approx. 35,000 undergraduates. Currently ranked as 71st in the United States, the college has a student-faculty ration of 17:1.
- Indiana University – Bloomington: a public university, was established in 1820 and has almost 37, 000 undergraduates. The university ranks at 76. The student-faculty ratio is 18:1.
- SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry: established in 1911, is a small college with a total of 1798 undergraduates. The urban campus is 12 acres. It currently ranks at 76 nationwide. The college is part of the state university of New York and offers a student-faculty ratio of 13:1.
- Michigan State University, a public university that was established in 1855, and currently has 37,988 undergraduates. The student-faculty ratio at Michigan is 17:1 and the university currently ranks at 85 in the United States.
- Binghamton University – SUNY, a public school established in 1946 and a part of the State University of New York. The school is ranked at 88 and offers students a student-faculty ratio of 20:1.
- Stony Brook University – SUNY, established in 1957, is a public university currently ranked at 88 in the U.S. The university has 15,992 undergraduates and has a student-faculty ratio of 17:1 The University is part of the State University of New York.
There are many advantages for students applying with college application essays. They can take their time over their applications to make the process less stressful, and admissions staff receive applications at a more staggered pace giving them more time to look over them. Of course, rolling admission isn’t perfect. The disadvantages are that, even with rolling admission, the early bird catches the worm. Places will not be guaranteed if you leave it late. Schools also tend to operate on a first come first serve basis for grants and accommodation.
As you can see, there are a number of impressive institutions who offer rolling admissions. Why not take advantage of these schools lack of deadlines and give yourself more of a chance?
